2014 “Cultures of China Talk by Masters” is held on May 3, 2014 at San Gabriel Hilton Hotel Ballroom B2 (225 W. Valley Blvd., San Gabriel, CA 91776). This year’s lecture features famous Peking Opera performers and scholars Ms. Ping Sun and Mr. Jinsen Ye.
This event is organized by Rhythm Media Group Inc., Roundtable of Chinese-American Organizations, California Media Club, and local Peking Opera fans group. Lecture includes characteristics of Peking Opera, Lanfang Mei and the Peking Opera, dissemination and Development of Peking Opera overseas, comparison between Peking Opera, Opera, Dance Drama, and Play, and Peking Opera demonstration (Lady of Heaven Scatters Flowers, River of Autumn, Farewell My Concubine, Boar Woods, etc.)
Ping Sun: member of China National Peking Opera Company, executive director of Peking Opera Study Center of Renming University, dean of Art Reseach Institute of Beijing Foreign Studies University, executive director of Public Diplomacy Research Center of Beijing Foreign Studies University, visiting scholar of Yale School of Drama and University of Pennsylvania Department of Music. She held her solo Peking Opera Concert at John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2000 and had lectures at U.S. Congress, Yale University, and University of Pennsylvania.
Jinsen Ye: a renown Peking Opera performer specialized in the role of martial male, member of China National Peking Opera Company. Mr. Ye’s family founded the earliest and most famous Peking Opera training academy in China’s modern history, Fuliancheng Society, whose alumni include Lanfang Mei, Xinfang Zhou, Lianliang Ma, Fuying Tan, Shengrong Qiu, Shenglan Ye, Shihai Yuan, Shifang Li, and Yuanshou Tan.
